Eliminating the dummy and potty training catch up

As promised we have managed to cut down on the dummy, hurrah! Want to know our secret?

Okay, I chucked away all Bambino's dummies (mean mummy!) and brought him a new dummy that has a different teat to it which Bambino doesn't particularly like, so when he picks it up and puts it in his mouth he spits it back out again. Genius I know! And now he isn't bothered about it at all, he goes to bed with it but doesn't have it in his mouth for long... So I don't think it will be an awful lot longer before I manage to eliminate it altogether Mwahaha (that was my evil laugh by the way.)

On the whole Elimination Communication/ Infant potty training scenario I still haven't tried it yet, I have been searching around for a nice potty made for tiny bums...

As for tonight me and the OH are having date night. Perfect opportunity as the Bambino is staying at his Nanny and Grandads for the evening so we are going to have our monthly evening to ourselves were we both TRY our hardest not to be mummy and daddy, and let our hair down and spend time together. Should be lovely...

Elimination communication/ Infant potty training

Elimination Communication (EC) also know as Infant Potty training, If anyone has any information or tips on this I would be hugely grateful!

I've only recently heard of "EC" and I find the idea hugely intriguing I have to admit!

Basically it's a idea of potty training which in many cases starts from birth. The idea is during the day when you and your baby are at home the baby is nappy free and when he/she need to do their business you pop them onto a potty or hoover above the toilet and let them do what they need to do, and when they are doing a pee or poo you make little noises i.e. When they make a pee you make a hissing noise or just say peepee... And in time they pick up the noise and associate it with what they need to do and where to go. Also you start to pick up on little things they may do before they need to go to the loo, they may start pulling on there willy if needing a wee (Obviously little girls won't do this...)

You can do it all the time if you may choose to only do it for a few hours every day or when you fancy it's meant to be a very lax way of introducing a potty to them.

This is something I think me and the Bambino are going to give a shot, once I've found a potty small enough for small bums!

In other news the elimination of the dummy is going well we have pretty much got it out of our daily lives other than for napping or when he goes to bed! Fingers crossed it will be in the bin beofre long.

Dummy/ Pacifier/ Doodies/ Soother.

I don't like them very much. Dummies I mean I think they are ugly looking things.
Yet The Bambino has one?
It's because when he was a tiny baby he had colic and at the time it soothed him, may of only been for a couple of minutes but at the time it was heaven and then it just sort of stuck.
But of course I regret it now, I have been thinking recently of the best ways to wean him off it. there are a few reasons for this:

1. I personally don't like the look of toddlers running around with them in their mouths, I think they should only have them in bed if they do have them.

2. I think they are dirty. I clean and sterilise Bambino's on a daily basis but when he spits it out on the floor or rubs it around on a restaurants table how can me just sucking the dirt off it really clean it? It must pick up soo many germs then he pops it back into his mouth! Yukk!

3. Buck teeth. My niece and nephew both had dummies and both have had to have braces while they were in their teens. Not something I wish Bambino to have to have.

4. I would love him to self sooth himself rather than relying on a dummy to stop him crying.

I tried last night to put Bambino to bed without his dummy and 15 minutes later he still hadn't settled down, so I think I will try to wean him in the day first then tackle the dummy at night last... If you have any tips or advice please don't hesitate to let me know!

I will let you know how we are getting on in the weeks to come.

Wish us luck!
